Monte brings a unique and highly informed lens to his work with founders, informed by a career spent in some of Australia’s most prominent financial institutions. He has assisted with statutory and management accounting at Allianz, and worked in the Audit and Assurance practice at Deloitte. Prior to joining HGV, Monte helped early-stage startups and scale-ups to access sustainable alternative funding through R&D and grant financing.

In my former life as an auditor, surviving the often gruelling schedule required patience, resilience and mental fortitude. But I learned that these personal attributes alone weren’t sufficient to come through it smiling. To succeed professionally and achieve the optimum outcomes it is most important to surround yourself with the right team.

Personally, I am most passionate about the innovative and disruptive ideas that emerge from the Australian startup ecosystem. Witnessing entrepreneurs and visionaries bring their unique concepts to life is incredibly inspiring to me. I am drawn to the vibrant tech and social impact solutions emerging from Australia. Advancements in the fields of AI, renewable energy, Ag/Med/Climate/Edu tech excite me and being a part of a community that embraces cutting-edge technologies and drives forward scientific breakthroughs is a thrilling prospect.

Resilience and adaptability. Of late it’s become clear that the ground may quickly shift beneath our feet and not always in a way making founder life easier. Accept there will be challenges, be willing and prepared to sway with the wind. The startup journey is filled with uncertainties, challenges, and setbacks, and the ability to persevere through these obstacles is crucial.
